Overview
We've rebuilt the cricket scoring screen so everything a scorer needs on every ball — both team scores, over progress, the facing batter and the current bowler — stays on screen at all times, with no need to navigate away mid-match.
The new interface is live from 1 October 2026 for all cricket organisations under Cricket Australia, New Zealand Cricket and Cricket Scotland. Scoring itself hasn't changed — the way you record runs, wickets and extras is the same. What's changed is how quickly you can find things, how much stays visible without leaving the scoring screen, and how confident you can be that your scoring has actually saved.
The redesign is based on direct feedback from active club and volunteer scorers, and focuses on four things they told us mattered most: keeping chase information (runs to win, required run rate) visible at all times, confirming who's on strike at a glance, editing an earlier ball directly rather than through a menu, and knowing for certain that scoring has synced.
What's changed
| Change | What you'll notice |
|---|---|
| Both scores across the top | The score for both teams sits large at the top of the screen. Over progress, the facing batter and the current bowler stay on screen at all times. |
| All scoring buttons in one band | Dot through six, wide, no ball and wicket sit together in one reachable row — no scrolling or hunting between balls. |
| Undo is a labelled button | Undo is a clearly labelled button rather than a small arrow, so it stays visible the moment you need it. |
| Match situation strip | Runs to win, required run rate, target, balls left, wickets left and DLS par during a chase all appear on one line, live, without leaving the scoring screen. |
| Sync status on every ball | A live count of synced events sits at the bottom of the ball feed. It turns red if the connection drops, so you know before you finish the match. |
| Tap across to any over | An over selector sits above the ball events panel, so reviewing or fixing a ball from three overs ago is a tap, not a scroll. |
💡 Tip: Fewer errors left uncorrected
Because Undo stays visible and you can tap back to any earlier over, a mistake made mid-over is easier to catch and fix on the spot.
Trying the new interface before your first round
Throughout September, you can practise on the new interface before your first competitive match of the 2026/27 season.
-
Open the demo scoresheet
Go to score.playhq.com/demo. This is a safe, standalone practice environment — nothing you do here touches a real fixture or appears on a public scorecard.
-
Score a full practice match
Work through a complete innings, including a run chase, so the match situation strip has something to show you.
-
Try a correction
Use the over selector above the ball events panel to tap back to an earlier over, then edit a ball directly to see how the new correction flow works.
Switching between the new and old scoresheet
For the 2026/27 season, you can move back to the old scoresheet at any time if you hit a problem mid-match.
⚠️ Important: Switching back only applies to your current scoring session
The next time you open scoring for a new match, you'll start on the new interface again — you'll need to switch back each time you want the old scoresheet.
-
Open the scoring menu
Open the menu at the top left of the scoring screen.
-
Select Old Scoresheet
Select Old Scoresheet at the top of the menu. You'll continue scoring the same match on the old interface.
Once you've switched, all your scoring for that session carries over — nothing is lost in either direction.
Frequently asked questions
Who can use the new scoring interface?
Club Administrators and Scorers assigned to score a fixture can use the new interface — the same people who could access scoring on the old interface.
Do I need to do anything before my first match?
No. The new interface is there automatically when you open scoring on or after 1 October 2026.
Can I have a look before 1 October?
Yes. Throughout September you can score a practice match at score.playhq.com/demo. Nothing you do there affects a real fixture.
Has the way I record runs, wickets or extras changed?
No. The scoring itself is the same. The buttons have moved into one band and are easier to reach.
Where has Undo gone?
It's now a labelled Undo button on the scoring screen, rather than a small arrow.
What does the red sync count mean?
Some of your scoring hasn't reached PlayHQ yet, usually because the connection has dropped. Keep scoring — it will sync automatically once the connection returns, and the count will go back to normal.
How do I fix a ball from an earlier over?
Use the over selector above the ball events panel to tap across to that over, then edit the ball directly.
Can I go back to the old scoresheet?
Yes, throughout the 2026/27 season. Use the Old Scoresheet switch at the top of the menu on the top left of the scoring screen. Note this only applies to your current session — next time you open scoring, you'll start on the new interface again.
Who can I contact if I'm still stuck?
Contact your sport's support team and we'll help you out.
