Overview
The Fill in players setting lets you control whether scorers can add fill-in players to a team's line-up in eScore for fixtures in a grade.
Fill-in players give teams flexibility on game day when a player hasn't been correctly assigned to the team. However, fill-ins don't create a registered participant profile and don't count towards finals eligibility. For competitions where every player must be registered and licensed, you can turn the feature off so only registered players can take the court.
The setting is managed per grade, so you can turn fill-ins off for one competition while keeping them available in others.
💡 Tip: Default behaviour New grades have Fill in players turned OFF by default. Existing grades keep their current behaviour (fill-ins available) until you change the setting.
Turning fill-in players on or off for a grade
⚠️ Important: Change the setting before fixtures are played
Scorers already signed in to eScore may need to end or restart their session before the change takes effect.
Follow these steps to update the setting:
-
Open the grade
Navigate to Competitions > Season and select the grade you want to update.
-
Go to Game settings
Open the grade's Settings and select Game settings.
-
Update the Fill in players setting
Toggle 'Fill in players' to ON to allow scorers to add fill-ins, or OFF to prevent them.
-
Save your changes
Click Save. The setting applies to all fixtures in the grade.
Once saved, scorers will see (or no longer see) the option to add fill-in players when setting up games in that grade.
What scorers see in eScore
The setting controls the Add fill-in button in the eScore Game setup screen.
- Fill in players ON: The Add fill-in button appears, and scorers can add fill-in players to a team's line-up as usual.
- Fill in players OFF: The Add fill-in button is hidden. Only players registered to the team can be added to the line-up.
If a scorer is already signed in to eScore when you change the setting, ask them to end or restart their session so the change is reflected.
Frequently asked questions
Who can change the Fill in players setting?
Association Administrators with access to the competition's grade settings in the Admin Portal.
I can't see the Fill in players setting. Why?
This setting is being made available to basketball organisations progressively. If you can't see it in Game settings, contact your sport's support team.
Does changing the setting affect games that have already been played?
No. Fill-in players already recorded in completed games stay on the scoresheet. The setting only controls whether scorers can add new fill-ins.
Can I turn fill-ins off for some grades but not others?
Yes. The setting is managed per grade, so each grade can have its own setting.
Do fill-in players count towards finals eligibility?
No. Fill-ins don't create a registered participant profile and don't count towards finals eligibility, even when the setting is turned ON.
I turned the setting off but scorers can still see the Add fill-in button. What should I do?
Check that you saved the change in Game settings. Then ask the scorer to end or restart their eScore session. If the button still appears, contact your sport's support team.
Why is fill-ins turned off for a new grade I created?
New grades default to OFF. Toggle 'Fill in players' to ON in the grade's Game settings if you want to allow them.
