Getting started, accounts and login
Do I need a login to use the app?
No. Anyone can download the app and browse content without logging in.
How do I log in?
Go to the Account area in the app, enter your PlayHQ email address (use lowercase only) and password. Use Forgot password if you need to reset it, or Sign Up to create a new PlayHQ account if you're new to PlayHQ.
Can I register to play via the app?
Registration links are found on the Club's or League's/Association's page, under the Registration tab. This opens your device's browser, where you can complete registration if you're logged in.
- New to your sport? Head to your sport's registration site to find a club to join (e.g. Play.AFL for Play AFL, your state basketball association's site for MyHoops, netball.com.au/netball-finder for NetballHQ, or the Basketball England website for HoopsHQ).
- Already registered with a PlayHQ account? Log in via PlayHQ using your device's browser.
Why can't I see my entry-level program information (NAB AFL Auskick / Aussie Hoops / Woolworths NetSetGo)?
These apps are designed for competition-based formats. You can find entry-level program centres to get registration links, contact details and websites, but no session or group information is shown, and entry-level program profiles won't appear.
How do I refresh a page in the app?
Pull down on the screen with your finger or thumb, then release. This checks for new information and refreshes the content you're viewing.
Is the app available internationally?
Yes, all four apps are global applications.
Favourites, home screen and pinning
How do I find and favourite a team?
There are several ways to find a team:
- If the team is part of a club, search for the club, then select the competition and season the team is competing in.
- Search for the League (Play AFL) or Association (MyHoops, NetballHQ, HoopsHQ) that hosts the competition, then select season and grade.
- Find the team within a grade's fixture or ladder, or from within a Game Centre.
- Find the team via a player's profile page — all profile pages list the teams that player is allocated to.
Once on the team's home page, tap the star icon at the top to add it as a favourite.
How do I favourite a player, club, league/association or grade/division?
Each of these has a home or profile page with a star icon at the top — tap it to add as a favourite. Players can be found via player search (enter both first and last name) or throughout the app in line-ups, statistics and best-player sections. Grades/Divisions are found by first searching the League/Association that hosts the competition and selecting the season.
Why can't I see my favourite player's games on my Team Schedule?
The Team Schedule is powered by favourite teams only. You'll need to favourite the player's team as well to see their games on the schedule.
How do I remove or edit a favourite?
Visit the favourite's home page and tap the star icon to deactivate it, or swipe right-to-left on its tile in the Favourites list to reveal a bin icon. You can also bulk delete or bulk unpin favourites using Edit in the Favourites section.
How many favourites can I have?
You can add up to 50 favourites in each category (players, teams, clubs, grades, and leagues/associations).
What is the Team Schedule on the home page?
A snapshot of your pinned favourite teams' next games — generally all games in the coming week, plus each team's next event (game or bye) in "Next Round." It isn't a full fixture; visit the team's home page for that.
What is pinning, and how many teams can I pin to the home screen?
Pinning controls which favourites appear on your home screen. Favourites are pinned automatically when added (until you hit the limit). Only 10 teams (with a status of Active or Upcoming) can be pinned at once — edit your favourites list to change which ones are pinned.
A favourite keeps showing an "Out of Bounds" error — why?
If it relates to a team, grade, league or association, an administrator has restricted public access — contact the organisation or competition administrator directly. If it's a player showing "This profile is private," the player has set their profile to private; you should remove them as a favourite. See Private Profile settings for Participants.
Finding teams, players, grades and leagues/associations
Why can't I search for my team directly?
You need to first find the League/Association the team belongs to, then select the competition, season and grade. Teams can also be found via a player's profile page, which lists all teams that player is currently allocated to.
Why can't I find a player in player search?
Common reasons: their profile is private; the search didn't include both first and last name; they've only registered to an entry-level program (not a competition); their registration hasn't been approved yet; or they've only registered in a non-playing role (coach, team manager, volunteer).
Do I need to re-favourite my team or grade each season?
Yes — teams and grades are seasonal. A new team/grade record is created each season, so you'll need to add the new version as a favourite. A "Completed" icon next to a team or grade means that record's season has finished.
Why does my team's fixture say "There are no upcoming games," "There is no fixture available," or "Fixture has not yet been confirmed"?
These messages appear when a team has finished its season's games (or is awaiting finals assignment); when a team isn't yet allocated to a grade or the grade has no fixture yet; or when the competition administrator hasn't made the fixture public yet. Contact the competition administrator if you believe this is incorrect.
Why is a team I play in not showing on my profile?
The competition administrator must allocate you to the team — being selected for a game line-up alone doesn't add it to your profile. You can still favourite the team to power your Team Schedule.
Why can't I find a league/association?
Only leagues/associations that use the PlayHQ competition management system will appear in search, with fixtures, ladders, results and statistics available.
How do I hide my (or my child's) name from appearing in the app?
Set the profile to Private by logging into PlayHQ.com and updating the profile. Private profiles won't appear in search results, line-ups, statistics, or have an accessible profile page.
Sharing content and registration
How do I share content? Find the game, player, team, grade, club or league/association you want to share, then tap the Share icon (up arrow) at the top of the page. This uses your device's messaging, email, or other communication apps.
Live scores and in-progress games
Why don't scores, play-by-play or the clock appear for an "In Progress" game?
A Live game is being scored in real time at the venue using PlayHQ's electronic scoring system — scores, the clock and play-by-play events sync automatically. An In-Progress game is underway but not being electronically scored (typically scored on paper, with results entered later by an administrator) — these won't show play-by-play data.
Tip: Live scores are available from app version 1.1.0 and above — update your app if you're not seeing them.
Why aren't scores updating during a Live game?
Game Centre views update automatically. Home screen tiles, team fixtures and grade fixtures need a manual refresh (pull-to-refresh) or a navigate-away-and-back to show the latest scores.
Managing team line-ups, scores and player availability
Can I manage my team's line-up or enter scores in the app?
Yes, team managers and coaches who have been granted management access can manage these tasks within the app.
How do I set my (or my dependant's) match availability?
Log into the app with your PlayHQ account, navigate to your upcoming matches, and mark yourself as Available or Unavailable. Account holders can manage availability for all their dependants, and this flows through to the team management system automatically.
Digital membership cards
This feature is currently only available in HoopsHQ (Basketball England). Play AFL, MyHoops and NetballHQ don't include digital membership cards.
Your digital membership card shows the verification information needed on match day: name and player profile link, role (Player, Coach, Team Manager, Referee, etc.), age and gender, team and grade assignments, season and competition details, club/association information, and membership type with photograph.
On the ID page, Active & Upcoming cards show by default, alongside Completed cards for past registrations. You can reorder active cards by dragging them. Account holders can view cards for all dependants, and pending registrations appear in a different colour below active cards — contact your club administrator for help with approvals.
Tip: Team managers with management access can view membership cards (including photos and player numbers) for every player on their team via the match management menu.
Device compatibility and troubleshooting
What devices are supported?
All apps are designed to support iOS 15.1 and Android = 7.0, and are optimised for smartphones — performance on tablets may not be optimal. Actual performance may vary by device specifications and OS version.
I'm seeing "Out of Bounds! The competition administrator has restricted access to this view" — what does this mean?
An administrator has chosen to hide this information from the public. Contact the organisation or competition administrator directly to request access or clarification.
How do I get help with a technical issue?
- Confirm your device meets the minimum requirements.
- Try closing and reopening the app, or restart your device.
- Submit a support request through the PlayHQ support system.
- For app- or sport-specific issues, contact your sport's governing body directly (e.g. Basketball England for HoopsHQ).
Frequently asked questions
Do the same login details work across all apps?
Yes — all apps use your PlayHQ account. You don't need a separate login for each app; you simply won't see content for sports you haven't registered or favourited within.
My or my child's score/stat looks wrong — can PlayHQ fix it?
No. Contact the relevant club or association directly — they're responsible for reviewing and correcting game scores and statistics. PlayHQ can't update these on an organisation's behalf.
Can I follow other sports from one app?
No. Each app is scoped to one sport.
