Overview
Some clubs and associations on PlayHQ offer the option to pay your registration fees in smaller monthly payments instead of the full amount upfront. If your club has enabled instalments, you'll see two payment options at checkout: Pay Now (full amount) and Pay in Instalments.
Choosing instalments is always optional — you can switch between the two tabs and pay in full at any time.
When you select instalments, you'll pay a portion of your fees on registration day and the remaining balance in equal monthly payments over the weeks and months that follow.
Paying via instalments
When selecting to Pay in Instalments, your registration fees are split into two components: an upfront payment on registration day, and the remaining club fee balance paid in equal monthly instalments.
Instalment payments are available on club fees for player registrations only, where the club has enabled them. Not all clubs offer instalments — if you don't see the option at checkout, it's not currently available for that registration.
What you pay on registration day
- A deposit — a percentage of your club registration fee, set by your club
- All association and governing body fees, including memberships (these must be paid in full upfront and cannot be split into instalments)
- Any products or merchandise added to your cart
- The PlayHQ platform service fee (calculated on the full registration amount and charged in full upfront)
- Applicable taxes on the amount due on the day
What you pay over instalments
- Remaining club fee balance after your deposit
- Applicable taxes on the remaining amount
- A small processing fee on each instalment payment (this fee is not charged on your initial deposit)
Example
Consider a $500 club registration fee where the club has set a 20% deposit and a final payment due date 5 months away. On registration day, you'd pay the $100 deposit (20% of $500), plus any association or governing body fees, products, and the platform service fee. The remaining $400 is then divided into 5 equal monthly instalments of $80 each, with a small processing fee added to each instalment.
How payments are collected
When you choose to pay in instalments, you'll be prompted to save a credit or debit card on file during checkout.
After your initial payment, all remaining instalments are charged automatically to your saved card on the scheduled dates.
Your club sets the payment schedule, including the final due date by which all payments must be completed. Instalments are processed on the same day each month (matching the day of the final due date). If that day doesn't exist in a shorter month — for example the 31st in a month with 30 days — payment is automatically processed on the last available day of that month.
No further action is required from you unless a payment fails.
Using discounts and vouchers with instalments
If you apply a discount or voucher code during registration, the reduction is applied automatically. Both your upfront payment and your instalment amounts will adjust to reflect the discounted total.
Frequently asked questions
Is paying in instalments compulsory? No. Instalments are always optional. At checkout you'll see two tabs — "Pay Now" and "Pay in Instalments". You can choose to pay the full amount upfront if you prefer. The instalment option is only available if your club has enabled it.
How much is the deposit? The deposit is set by your club. The exact amount is shown at checkout before you confirm. Many clubs set deposits between 20% and 50% of the club registration fee.
When are my instalment payments due? Your instalment due dates are shown at checkout before you confirm. Payments are processed on the same day each month, based on the final due date set by your club, and will continue until your balance is paid in full.
Can I see the total cost including fees before I commit? Yes. The complete instalment breakdown is displayed at checkout before you confirm payment, including the deposit, each instalment amount, due dates, and any processing fees. You can switch between "Pay Now" and "Pay in Instalments" to compare.
Can I use a voucher or discount code with instalments? Yes. Discounts and vouchers are applied to the total registration amount and both the upfront payment and instalment amounts adjust automatically.
Can I purchase registration protection with instalments? No. Refund Protection is currently available with the "Pay Now" option only.
What payment methods can I use? Instalments require a credit or debit card saved on file. PayPal Pay in 4 is not available for instalment-based payments.
What happens if my payment fails? If a scheduled payment fails, the system will automatically retry the charge. Make sure your card details are up to date and that sufficient funds are available. If payments remain outstanding, your club may follow up with you directly.
Can I change my card details after I've started paying? This will be available soon.
Can I pay off my remaining balance early? Early repayment is not currently available. Instalments are processed automatically on each scheduled date and cannot be paid ahead of schedule at this time.
Can association or governing body fees be paid in instalments? No. Only club registration fees can be split into instalments. All association, governing body, and membership fees are paid in full on registration day.
Which registrations support instalments? Instalment payments are available on club fees for player registrations only. Other registration types (e.g. coaches, officials) require full payment upfront.
