A grade contains a collection of allocated teams that are fixtured to play one another through the season. If a Team to Season registration form is used, team organisers can select the grade to nominate the team to be entered.
Create a grade
To create a grade:
- From the menu, click Competition Management
- Click the required Competition
- Click the required Season tile
- Click the Add a Grade button.
- If you wish to create a non-competitive game. Click on the drop down arrow next to Add a Grade and you can create Friendly Games, Practice Games, Pre-season games (dependent on your sport).
Create a Friendly, Practice or Pre-Season Game
All play grade name options differ per sport g. Cricket - Friendly, Practice, Pre-season,
What makes these grades different is you can create non competitive game against any team in your competition season.
- There is no automated fixturing, so you can go in and click on Add a Game
- Under Create New Game setup the Game Details.
- Select a Home Team & Away Team which can be any team in your competition season. You are no longer limited to the pre-populated team list from your nominated grade.
- For large competitions you can use the Search function or the Filter option to find Teams quickly.
What else is different?
- There are no rounds, games are simply listed in date order.
- These are non-competitive games, these do no contribute to any player career statistics by default.
Grade Details
Complete the Grade Details. Refer to the table below to learn about each field.
Grade settings may differ per sport
Some settings may only be visible to specific sports.
Once you've completed the Grade details, click the Next button in the upper-right corner.

Grade name |
A Grade Name will automatically generate as you select/enter the attributes above. You can override the grade name at any time. However, if you then update any of the grade attributes, the grade name will again be overwritten with an auto-generated name. |
Grade visibility | Set whether you would like this grade to be visible on the organisation's page on PlayHQ Discover. |
Game Settings
Configure the grade's game settings. Refer to the table below to learn about each setting.

Choose to enable/disable period scores for the grade. If enabled, you will need to choose By Period or End of Period. |
Players - Choose to enable/disable player limits for the grade. If enabled, you will need to choose the minimum and a maximum number of players who may participate in a game for a team. Coaches - Choose to enable/disable coaches limits for the grade. If enabled, you will need to choose the minimum and a maximum number of coaches who may participate in a game for a team. |

Publishing Line-ups |
Association Admins have the ability to select when team line-ups are published on the PlayHQ public site and participant portal. Three options are available:
Line-ups remain when the game is Live or Final. If enabled the line-ups tab will remain along with the statistics tab on the public game centre. |
Player positions |
Set whether player positions are available when selecting starting line-ups. Player positions will also appear on the participant portal when line-ups are published. If enabled, admins will need to choose whether positions are enforced when selecting line-ups, meaning players must be assigned a position in order to be able to save line-ups. Note: For AFL, both teams line-ups must be entered and all 18 on field positions assigned in order to display player positions on the public game centre. For Hockey and Netball, positions will display whenever they are entered. |
Overtime |
Choose to enable/disable overtime for the grade. If enabled, you will need to choose whether overtime is Always on, or if it is for Finals Only. You will also need to set the duration of overtime periods. |
Choose to enable/disable best players for the grade. If enabled, you will need to select the amount of best players. |

Choose to enable/disable player points for the grade. If enabled, you will need to choose whether to Enforce a team total player points cap or not. If yes is selected, you will need to set the Team player points cap. Player Points visibility - Set whether player points is visible or hidden on the organisation's PlayHQ Discover site. |

Extra Scores |
Choose to enable/disable extra scores for the grade. If enabled, you will need to select the value of the extra scoring type. |
Finals eligibility |
Choose to enable/disable finals eligibility for the grade. If enabled, you will need to select the value for minimum number of games played. |
Time-out limits |
Set time-out limits for game periods and over-time so that time-out limit can be displayed for electronically scored games for this grade. |
Foul Penalties |
Foul penalties are enforced with limits for electronically scored games played in that grade. |
Court Percentage Allocation |
If the games do not require a full-size court or field, you can set the. percentage required here. By default, a Court's size will take up 100%. |
Game outcome points |
Set the whether points awarded to game results are sport default or custom. |
Ladder Settings
The next step involves confirming the grade's ladder settings. Refer to the table below to learn about each field.

Set whether a team's previous game results are carried over into the new grade after a regrade. If carrying over game results, points for/against can also be excluded if applicable. |
Ladder visibility |
Set whether ladders are displayed for the grade on the PlayHQ public website. Ladder columns can also be configured to be displayed or hidden from this view. |

Additional Ladder settings can also be found under the Ladder tab, when the grade is created. This includes selecting which round the ladder should be calculated from. |
Club Access Settings
Set the access that you would like to apply to clubs for games in this grade. Refer to the table below to learn about each field.

Allow clubs to enter scores |
Choose to enable/disable allow clubs to enter scores for the grade. You will need to select their own team or Both teams. For either selection, you will need to select a time to lock access after game starts in hours. Cricket AustraliaCricket Club Administrators will not have access to enter scores in Game Day. They can enter scores in Game Details. |
Allow clubs to enter scores via electronic scoring |
Choose to enable/disable allow clubs to enter scores via electronic scoring for the grade. |
Select Add grade to confirm and commit your chosen grade settings.
Congratulations! You have successfully created a grade.
Edit a grade
You can update the grade details at any time by selecting the relevant Competition and Season tiles, and then selecting the relevant Grade's name when viewing the list of grades in the Grade tab. Finally, when viewing the grade, select the Settings tab.
You'll arrive on the General sub-tab. However, there are several other sub-tabs available, including Fixturing, Game, Ladder, and Regrade History. You will find all of the settings described earlier, and more, in these tabs. Most can be changed at any time, but some cannot be updated due to critical implications on system functionality.
Update the information you would like to change, and then select Update & Save.
Delete a grade
You can delete a grade by selecting the relevant Competition and Season tile, selecting the Grade from the list of grades in the Grades tab, and then selecting the Settings sub-tab. Finally, from the General sub-tab, select Delete grade.
Note: If the grade contains at least one allocated team, or is selected in a Team to Season registration form, or has had a transaction recorded against it, then the grade cannot be deleted. If none of the dependencies listed above are valid for the grade, then the Delete grade button will be enabled.
Confirm the deletion by clicking Delete grade or click Cancel to return to the previous page without deleting the grade.
