When you configure Competition Grade Default settings or Ladder Default settings when viewing a grade, there are two ladder types to select from that differ in their ranking options:
- Ladder points average, and
- Total ladder points
The main difference between the two ranking types is that the Ladder points average ladder ranks teams based only on the result of the games played. 'Byes' do not factor in the calculation. This is deemed to be a fairer manner to rank teams in typical domestic type competitions as often teams are provided with an unequal number of 'byes' given the number of rounds in the regular season and the number of teams in the grade. The Total ladder points ladder includes 'byes' in the ranking of teams with 'byes' given a specific ladder (championship) points outcome.
At any time, you can switch between the two ladder types and the grades ladder will be immediately updated to display accordingly.
This article describes how an administrator can select a Ladder Ranking type for a grade after the grade has been created. To read further on the other options on ladder settings proceed to read the managing your ladder settings article.
Setting the Lanking Ranking type
Select the Competition Management main menu item, and then the appropriate Competition and Season tile, and then view the Grades tab. Select the grade, then the Settings tab, and Ladder sub-tab.
In the Ladder Settings section, set the Ranking type that will apply to the grade. Update & Save to apply any change.
Ladder points average
Ladder positions
Teams will be sorted based on their Points Average (which is calculated by the ladder (championship) points divided by the number of games played). If more than one team is on the same Points Average then they will be sorted by highest % (Points For divided by Points Against, multiplied by 100), then sorted by Points For and then lastly by Team name alphabetical order (if ever required).
Display columns
Ladder statistics order: games played (excludes byes), points average, total ladder (championship) points, percentage, wins, losses, draws, byes, points for, points against, forfeits, and disqualifications. The final column displays any administrator set 'Adjustments' that are applied to a team's ladder (competition) points, and which may be added or subtracted to their total.
