A competition in PlayHQ contains one or more seasons where participants register, are allocated to teams, and fixtures are scheduled. This guide explains how to create a new cricket competition in the PlayHQ Admin Portal.

Create a competition

  1. From the main menu, select Competition Management.
  2. Click Add Competition.
  3. Complete the Competition Details page, then click Next.
  4. Complete the Game & Grade Default Settings, then click Create Competition.

There are some differences in settings available for each sport. In cricket specifically, there are three (3) game setting pages for each game format available (Two Day+, One Day and T20).

These Competition - Default Settings only apply to new grades created and new games scheduled in the competition. To update game and grade settings, navigate to each individual grade's settings.

TIP:

You can keep your competition "hidden" from public view until you're ready for it to be published.

What type of competition should I create?

PlayHQ offers three types of competitions, each designed for different needs:

  • Domestic: Ideal for local competitions where all matches are played at venues linked to your association.
  • Home & Away: Matches are played at venues associated with the home team, suitable for clubs with designated home venues.
  • Tournament: A structured competition with a round-robin group phase, with or without pools, typically followed by knockout-style finals.

Why do I need to select a competition format?

The selected format allows participants to search for your competition by format easily. Some sports require different rules in place per format.

If your competition has different by-laws or rules across age groups (e.g. Junior and Senior) or levels (e.g. Schools and Representative), we recommend setting up individual competitions.

This will make it easier to apply the same settings throughout the entire competition. Alternatively, individual grade settings can be edited.
